GENERAL INFORMATION:Brachyspira are anaerobic spirochaetes that infect the large intestine of humans and many animal species. The Brachyspira genus comprises ten species. B. pilosicoli is the causing agent of porcine intestinal spirochaetosis, a disease characterized by diarrhoea and depressed growth rates especially in nursery and fattening pigs. Bacteriological culture is considered as the ‘‘gold standard’’ technique to diagnose B. pilosicoli infection. However, it is tricky and reserved for specialized laboratories. More recently, polymerase chain reaction (PCR) assays have been developed allowing to more easily detect B. pilosicoli and to differentiate it from other swine Brachyspira species such as B. innocens, B. hampsonii, B. murdochii, B. hyodysenteriae, B. suanatina, and B. intermedia. Biovet Brachyspira pilosicoli oneMIX is intended for the detection and/or quantification of B. pilosicoli in various samples from swine such as feces or oral fluids.

SUMMARY AND EXPLANATION:Biovet Brachyspira pilosicoli oneMIX contains a FAM labeled probe for the specific identification and quantification of B. pilosicoli with a smaller background and a more powerful signal than traditional combinations. This kit provides every component of the qPCR reaction (buffers, enzyme, dNTPs, specific primers and probes for the pathogen and an endogenous amplification control) already mixed in one tube. B. pilosicoli genome amplification will be detected through FAM channel at 530 nm. This kit can also identify false negative results by measuring the endogenous amplification control fluorescent signal through HEX or VIC channel. A synthetic B. pilosicoli positive control is provided for relative and absolute quantification.
