Mycoplasma mycoides cluster is a group of closely related infectious mycoplasmas. Comprises the ruminant pathogens M. mycoides subsp. mycoides the causative agent of contagious bovine pleuropneumonia, M. capricolum subsp. capripneumoniae the agent of contagious caprine pleuropneumonia, M. capricolum subsp. capricolum, M. leachii and M. mycoides subsp. capri. M. putrefaciens is related to contagious agalactia together with some subspecies of M. capricolum and M. mycoides. Contagious bovine and caprine pleuropneumonia are major livestock diseases and impact the agricultural sector, especially in developing countries.
