GENERAL INFORMATION:Mycoplasma is a genus of bacteria that lack a cell wall around their cell membrane. There are no free-living Mycoplasma, they are strictly parasites. They parasitize, on the surface or intracellularly, a wide range of organism including humans, plants, animals, and insects. Many species of Mycoplasma are commensal, living innocuously with their host as part of the natural flora of the body, with no detrimental effects. But when Mycoplasma act as pathogen they cause chronic but mild infections that rarely kill their host. More than 100 species have been included in the genus Mycoplasma with a high degree of diversity. The MycpSpp dtec-qPCR Test is specific for the no-mycoides cluster, marked in green in the phylogenetic tree included on the MycpSpp Annex.
Bartonella henselae (formerly known as Rochalimaea henselae), is an aerobic proteobacterium, slow growing and Gram-negative rod belonging to the Bartonellaceae family and one of the most common types of bacteria in the world. B. henselae is a bacterium that infects both cats and humans. When cats are infected, they show no symptoms; in humans the bacterium has different effects on immunocompromised individuals and immunocompetent individuals.
