Laminar flow hoods are laboratory equipment designed to create a clean air workspace through forced air circulation passing through high-efficiency HEPA filters. This filtered airflow significantly reduces the risk of sample contamination, ensuring a controlled environment for handling sensitive materials. There are two main types: horizontal laminar flow, where the filtered air circulates horizontally directly over the workspace, protecting the sample; and vertical laminar flow, where the air flows from top to bottom, also providing a clean and controlled environment. These devices are generally equipped with white light illumination and UV lamps for sterilizing the workspace, contributing to greater safety and efficiency in laboratory procedures.
