Description
The Real Time PCR Detetion Kit Lassa virus comprises a series of specific targeted reagents designed for Lassa virus detection by using qPCR.
GENERAL INFORMATION:Lassa virus is an enveloped virus with a single-stranded, negative-sense RNA genome, that belongs to the family Arenaviridae, genus Mammarenavirus. It primarily infects rodents of the genus Mastomys, which serve as the natural reservoir, and it can be transmitted to humans, causing Lassa fever, a viral haemorrhagic illness. In humans, clinical manifestations range from mild symptoms such as fever, malaise, and headache, to severe disease characterised by haemorrhaging, respiratory distress, and multi-organ failure. There is a significant case fatality rate among hospitalised patients. Transmission occurs through contact with food or objects contaminated with rodent excreta, as well as via person-to-person spread through bodily fluids. The virus is endemic in West Africa, where it is a major public health concern associated with periodic outbreaks.
KIT CHARACTERISTICS:
- Assay Mix Target composed by singleplex mixtures of specific forward/reverse primers and probe.
- Resuspension buffer
- DNase/RNase free water
- (OPTIONAL) Internal Control Assay Mix
- Mastermix solution
- Positive control
