Background:Detection of Equine herpesvirus 1 species by using qPCR.
Equine herpesvirus 1 is a DNA virus, with the DNA genome enclosed by an icosahedral capsid surrounded by a tegument layer and an outer membrane, also known as the virion envelope. EHV-1 belongs to the family Herpesviridae which causes abortion, respiratory disease, and occasionally neonatal mortality in horses. Together with EHV-4, are known to produce equine rhinopneumonitis. Because of its ability to target multiple organ systems, EHV-1 is the most costly virus to the equine industry.
