Product Description

The Organophosphate/Carbamate Plate Assay is a qualitative colorimetric assay for the detection of a wide range of organophosphate, including thiophosphate, and carbamate pesticides in water samples. Suitable matrices include drinking water, groundwater, surface water, and well water.

The assay is based on the inhibition of the enzyme Acetylcholinesterase (ACh-E). ACh-E hydrolyzes acetylthiocholine (ATC), which reacts with 5,5'-Dithio-bis(2-Nitrobenzoic Acid) (DTNB) to produce a yellow colour measured at 405 nm. When organophosphate or carbamate pesticides are present, they inhibit ACh-E, reducing or preventing colour formation depending on their concentration.

The detection limits vary according to the ability of each pesticide to inhibit the enzyme. When the presence of a single organophosphate or carbamate pesticide has been established, the assay can be used with appropriate standards for quantitative testing.

The test can also be used for the analysis of dislodgeable pesticide residues from surface wash samples and pesticide residues prepared from dried extracts. For these applications, please contact technical services for application bulletins and/or specific matrix validation guidelines.

Kit Features

• Qualitative screening
Designed for the detection of a wide range of organophosphate and carbamate pesticides.

• Acetylcholinesterase inhibition assay
Based on the inhibition of ACh-E activity by organophosphate and carbamate pesticides.

• Suitable for multiple water matrices
Applicable to drinking water, groundwater, surface water, and well water samples.

• Colorimetric detection
Colour development is measured at 405 nm, with reduced colour formation indicating the presence of pesticide inhibitors.

• Quantitative testing option
When a single target pesticide has been identified, the assay can be used with appropriate standards for quantitative analysis.

• Additional applications
Suitable for testing dislodgeable residues from surface wash and pesticide residues prepared from dried extracts. Contact technical services for specific application and matrix validation guidelines.

• Regulatory confirmation
Samples requiring regulatory action should be confirmed by HPLC, GC/MS, or other conventional methods.
