Unlike immunoassays based on the ADDA group, this method uses the inhibition of protein phosphatase 2A (PP2A) as its analytical principle. This complementary approach provides a functional assessment of the activity of microcystins and nodularins and can be used as an alternative or complementary method to ADDA-based assays.
The assay provides a simple and rapid solution for monitoring microcystin and nodularin concentrations in water and assessing whether toxin levels are above relevant guideline values. It is suitable for routine water quality monitoring and cyanobacterial toxin analysis.
