Allows for relative DNA quantification when used in combination with the Condagene Animal ID Cow.
INTRODUCTION: According to European Commission Directive 2002/86/EC, food ingredients must be declared. For meat and meat products, animal species must be labeled with precise information regarding the species and their percentage within the product. Furthermore, in accordance with EU Directives 273/2008 and 1379/2013, the addition of cow's milk to high-quality non-cow milk is regulated at a 0.5% limit, and the labeling of fish species with their commercial name is mandatory.
Moreover, species authenticity is highly relevant to consumers for various reasons, including economic, health, cultural, and religious factors. Fraudulent substitution of cheaper meat or fish for more expensive varieties, the inclusion of meat in non-meat (vegetarian) products, and the interest in verifying animal species in meat products (such as Halal and Kosher) clearly demonstrate the importance of this issue. Various species detection methods rely on protein identification via electrophoretic and/or immunological techniques. However, these methods are unreliable for highly processed or heat-treated products due to protein degradation. DNA is more stable than protein during processing; although it may become fragmented by various processes, DNA-based methodologies—such as PCR techniques—can still successfully identify it within samples. Real-time PCR techniques utilizing specific fluorescent probes are particularly well-suited for these products, as even small DNA fragments can be amplified and identified with high sensitivity and specificity.
PRODUCT DESCRIPTION: DNA Standard Cow was developed for the comparative quantification of bovine DNA in food and feed samples using real-time PCR. For reliable quantitative results, it is recommended to use Condagene DNA Standard Cow in combination with the Condagene Animal ID Cow (6544).
PRODUCT FEATURES:
-Contains a DNA fragment at a known concentration for use as a standard
- Condagene Animal ID Cow (6544) (not included, but required)
