BACKGROUND: According to the European Commission Directive 2002/86/EC, food ingredients must be declared. In the case of meat and meat products, animal species have to be labeled with precise information about the species and its percentage in the product.
Species authenticity is highly relevant to consumers for economic, medical, cultural, and religious reasons. Examples like fraudulent substitution of expensive species with cheaper meats, inclusion of meat in vegetarian products, and allergens in food products highlight the importance of this issue.
The Condagene ID Animal Total Meat is specifically designed to detect meat (mammalian and avian) traces in food and feed samples using qPCR, addressing the need for reliable detection methods in the face of global food fraud risks. The kit detects any trace of meat DNA in food and feed samples, including raw ingredients, processed foods, and finished products.
Traditional protein-based detection methods are unreliable for highly processed and heated products, unlike DNA-based methods. DNA is more stable, and modern PCR techniques enable the identification of fragmented DNA from the species present in a sample, ensuring accurate and highly sensitive detection with a lower detection limit detection.

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION: Condagene ID Animal Total Meat uses real-time PCR for the detection of meat DNA present in the mitochondrial genome in a simple, reliable, and rapid procedure. The assay is based on 5’ nuclease real time PCR reactions to amplify a unique genomic sequence in the target. The carefully designed primers and probe ensure highest sensitivity and specificity. The kit consists of an assay mix for the detection of the target as well as a positive control and an internal control (IC).
