BMAA ELISA Kit
The BMAA ELISA Kit is designed for the detection and quantification of β-N-methylamino-L-alanine (BMAA), a non-protein amino acid produced by several species of cyanobacteria in freshwater, marine and terrestrial environments.
BMAA is a neurotoxic compound that can accumulate in aquatic environments and enter the food chain through the consumption of contaminated water, plants, fish and other animals. Cyanobacterial growth in drinking water sources such as lakes and reservoirs may therefore represent a potential source of human exposure. BMAA has been associated with neurological effects and has been investigated in connection with neurodegenerative conditions, including amyotrophic lateral sclerosis/parkinsonism dementia complex (ALS/PDC).
The BMAA ELISA provides a practical and efficient solution for monitoring BMAA in water samples. The assay can be performed in approximately 2 hours and requires less than 1 mL of sample, making it suitable for routine analysis and environmental monitoring applications.
