Real Time PCR Detection Kit Brachyspira pilosicoli

Background:Brachyspira pilosicoli detection by using qPCR.
Brachyspira pilosicoli (formerly Serpulina pilosicoli) is a Gram-negative, spiral-shaped, obligate anaerobe bacterium member of the Spirochaete family. It causes intestinal spirochaetosis in pigs, but it has also been isolated from dogs, birds and mice and also can cause zoonotic infection in humans. Dogs are thought to be a source of infection for people. Infection of B. pilosicoli is acquired through the fecal-oral route. Once in the alimentary tract, the bacterium produces edema, hemorrhage, and infiltration by inflammatory cells. The consequences are the sloughing of cells into the intestinal lumen, malabsorption, and secretory diarrhea. Affected pigs may be inappetent and grow slowly.
