Background:Taylorella equigenitalis detection by using qPCR.
Taylorella equigenitalis is a Gram-negative bacterium of the genus Taylorella, and the causative agent of contagious equine metritis in horses. The disease is an inflammatory sexually transmitted disease that is found in both males and females. Infected stallions are asymptomatic and act as the principal source of infection. Once the disease is contracted in the mare, the most common affection is infertility and in pregnant mares, abortion is expected. Other effects in mares, such as cervicitis, endometritis, and varying severities of vaginitis, can occur and occasionally have fatal outcomes.
