Rubella virus members have a single-stranded RNA of positive polarity genome enclosed by an icosahedral capsid. Is the only member of the Rubivirus genus and belongs to the Togaviridae family. Rubella virus is the pathogenic agent of the disease Rubella, also known as German measles or three-day measles, a common childhood infection. When infection occurs during the first weeks of pregnancy is the cause of congenital rubella syndrome. Humans are the only known host of this virus.
