Background:Infectious salmon anemia virus detection by using qPCR.
Infectious salmon anemia virus is the only species in the genus Isavirus which is in the family Orthomyxoviridae, related to the influenza viruses. It is an enveloped virus with a genome consisting of eight single-stranded negative-sense RNA segments. As the name implies, it causes severe anemia to Atlantic Salmon (Salmo salar) affecting fish farms in Canada, Norway, Scotland, and Chile, causing severe losses to infected farms.
